Description

Groot Constantia Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 captures the elegance and structure that define wines from South Africa’s historic Constantia valley. Influenced by cool Atlantic breezes and carefully farmed vineyards, this wine reflects both the estate’s centuries-old heritage and its precise modern winemaking.

The 2023 vintage opens with layered aromas of blackberry, cassis, and ripe plum, supported by subtle notes of tobacco, leather, and gentle oak spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet refined, with concentrated dark fruit and a firm, integrated tannin structure that brings balance and depth. Hints of graphite and savory complexity emerge on the long, polished finish.

This classic Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, slow-braised beef dishes, roast lamb, or aged hard cheeses. With its structure and balance, the wine will continue to develop gracefully for many years in the cellar.
The grapes were hand-harvested between March and early April at optimal ripeness and fermented in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs to gently extract color, flavor, and tannin. Following fermentation, the wine remained on the skins for approximately four weeks to enhance structure and depth.

Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel, after which the wine matured for 14 months in 225L French oak barrels. The barrel composition included 53% new French oak, with the balance made up of second, third, and fourth fill barrels to achieve balance between fruit expression and oak influence.
