Description

Vibrant and expressive, the 2023 Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage is a bold Stellenbosch red with a deep purple hue and an alluring nose of cherries, red and black plums, maraschino cherry, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The palate bursts with layers of ripe fruit—blackberries, mulberries, and orange zest—balanced by notes of liquorice, cedar, and warm baking spices. Medium-bodied with juicy freshness, fine-grained tannins, and a long, satisfying finish, this Pinotage is both accessible and full of character.
The 2023 vintage offered excellent ripening conditions, producing elegant Pinotage with softer tannins and early-drinking appeal. Grapes were fermented in open-top concrete tanks at 28°C, with regular punch-downs every two hours for optimal extraction. After just three days on skins, the wine was pressed and underwent malolactic fermentation before aging for 12 months in second- and third-fill 225L French oak barrels—preserving vibrant fruit while adding subtle depth and complexity.
