Description

With layers of ripe black cherries, juicy plums, and cassis unfolding on the nose, this flagship red blend from Groot Constantia is both powerful and poised. Notes of dark chocolate and tobacco lend depth, while the palate echoes the lush fruit character with a silky texture, fresh acidity, and firm yet elegant tannins. The 2022 Gouverneur’s Reserve is a masterfully structured wine built for longevity but already drinking beautifully. Ideal with roasted meats or aged cheeses, it's a must-have for collectors and fine wine lovers alike.
Our grapes thrive in granite-rich soils under cool Atlantic breezes, handpicked at peak ripeness in March. After slow fermentation in stainless steel and four weeks on skins for maximum flavor and tannin extraction, the wine matured for 15 months in fine French oak—75% new. Each barrel contributes to the wine’s structure, elegance, and long cellar potential.

Groot Constantia’s revered history tells us how a man’s love of wine established the first wine farm in South Africa. By going back 300 years, we come to understand how 891 morgen of land created the origins of the South African wine industry, and how every owner thereafter contributed to what we know as Groot Constantia today.
