Description

Zevenwacht The Tin Mine 2023 is a Stellenbosch red blend that brings together dark fruit, savory detail, and a polished structural frame in a style that feels both modern and grounded. It is a wine built around clarity and balance rather than sheer weight, with each component contributing to a layered but composed whole. For drinkers looking for a Stellenbosch red with ripe fruit, subtle spice, and well-managed oak, this is a convincing example.

The nose opens with blackberry, cranberry, and dark cherry, followed by savory herbs and a peppery lift that adds complexity without pushing too hard. On the palate, generous dark fruit is supported by fine tannins and neatly integrated oak, giving the wine depth and shape while keeping the finish smooth and controlled. There is enough freshness here to keep the wine lively, making it especially good with roast lamb, grilled beef, mushroom dishes, or slow-cooked meats where its fruit and savory spice can settle naturally into the food.
Each cultivar was harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented separately in stainless steel vessels. A 20% portion of the Shiraz component was fermented with 30% whole bunches to bring added spice and aromatic lift to the blend. After fermentation, the wine was pressed and racked to 500L French oak barrels, 20% of which were new, where the individual components matured for 12 months before the final blend was assembled.
