Description

Layered and expressive, the 2022 Zevenwacht Syrah from Stellenbosch opens with notes of white pepper, blackberry, and violet, evolving into juicy raspberry and subtle floral aromas. The palate delivers a savory spice thread woven through a core of red fruit, supported by fine, peppery tannins and balanced acidity. This Syrah is both elegant and robust—an ideal match for venison dishes like pepper-crusted kudu or slow-roasted springbok. A standout South African red with depth and finesse.
We harvested the Syrah at just over 23° Balling to lock in its signature pepper spice and fresh fruit character. A portion was fermented with 25% whole bunches for added structure, with peak fermentation at 28°C and gentle pump-overs for balanced extraction. The wine matured for 12 months in 500L French oak, with 20% new barrels. Grown on south-west facing granite slopes at 230–250m, these vines yield concentrated, expressive fruit perfect for crafting refined Stellenbosch Syrah.
