Restrained cherry, sundried tomato and raspberry aromas with a youthful, focused, and sweet fruited front palate. A long, very fine tannin structure that combines suppleness with power. Always a little restrained in its youth, this wine should unfold past 2020 to show its more soft, generous side. Confidently cellar through to 2026.
This delightful New Zealand Pinot Noir is light enough to enjoy with salmon or chicken, but complex enough to complement richer red or game meats and mushroom dishes. Sauces with garlic, tomato and cream will pair well.

The fruit for Envoy Pinot Noir comes from our oldest vines, in the area we call 'F Block'. Clay top soil, free draining gravel substrate, cool spring, warm dry summers, and extended ripening combine with root stock, clonal selection and vine age to produce small bunches with concentrated flavors.
Harvested predominately in the cool of early morning, gentle juice extraction, and pressing under inert gas. Cool settled and mainly fermented in stainless steel tanks, around 6% of fermentation in oak barrels.

In the 1990's, deep in the Waihopai Valley, Bryan and Jan Johnson established 320 acres of estate vineyards on land considered too hard, too dry and too unfertile for wine. It was a venture that started with a passion for the land. This pioneering spirit established one of New Zealand’s most successful boutique family-run wineries, now exporting eight varietals to 35 countries, from a crush capacity of 3000 tonnes.
Today, Spy Valley’s commitment remains to the land and to the people who tend it, and their focus is on sustainability which will ensure the guardianship of this land for generations to come. The name ‘Spy Valley’ comes from the wineries proximity to the spy base located down the road.
