Description

The DeMorgenzon Maestro Red 2022 is a polished Bordeaux-style blend that reflects the estate’s signature balance of precision, texture, and expressive fruit. Sourced entirely from estate vineyards in Stellenbosch Kloof, this wine brings together multiple varietals to create a layered, harmonious whole.

The nose is immediately inviting, with aromas of cassis, ripe red fruit, and plum, accented by notes of dried herbs and a subtle floral lift. On the palate, the wine is soft and silky, with flavors of black fruit and cigar box unfolding seamlessly across a finely textured structure. There’s a natural brightness here, supported by fresh acidity, leading to a smooth, composed finish that lingers with both fruit and spice.

This is a versatile, modern Stellenbosch blend that pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roast lamb, and savory, herb-driven dishes.

De Morgenzon, ‘the morning sun,’ was so named as it is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof valley to see the sun because of its high altitude and aspects. Their slopes rise from about 200m to nearly 400m above sea level and their vistas embrace Cape Town, Table Mountain, Cape Point, Cape Hangklip, the Hottentots Holland mountains, Helderberg and Simonsberg with the ocean as a backdrop. The reputation of Wendy and Hylton Applebaum’s estate continues its ascent - one regularly marked by genuinely prestigious international and local awards.
