Description

Bright, expressive, and beautifully balanced, this Stellenbosch Chardonnay opens with aromas of white peach, citrus blossom, and a subtle floral lift. The palate is rich yet refined, layered with ripe pear, lemon zest, and just the right touch of oak. A streak of fresh minerality carries through to a lingering finish that’s both elegant and refreshing. Crafted for lovers of classic, expressive Chardonnay, it’s a standout choice for sipping solo or pairing with grilled fish and light dishes.
Grown in cool-climate Stellenbosch vineyards near the ocean, our Chardonnay thrives in granite and sandstone soils for freshness and minerality. Each parcel is vinified separately—25% whole bunch pressed, 75% crushed and settled overnight—then fermented with a mix of wild and cultured yeasts. Aging on lees in both stainless steel and French oak barrels builds texture, while partial malolactic fermentation preserves vibrant acidity. Bottled after 7 months, this wine reflects precision and passion.

Winemaker: Anthony Sanvido
De Morgenzon, ‘the morning sun,’ was so named as it is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof valley to see the sun because of its high altitude and aspects. Their slopes rise from about 200m to nearly 400m above sea level and their vistas embrace Cape Town, Table Mountain, Cape Point, Cape Hangklip, the Hottentots Holland mountains, Helderberg and Simonsberg with the ocean as a backdrop. The reputation of Wendy and Hylton Applebaum’s estate continues its ascent - one regularly marked by genuinely prestigious international and local awards.
