A deep ruby colour leads to aromas of blackcurrant, mulberry, and warm spice. The palate bursts with dark fruit, cocoa, and wild herbs. Smooth tannins and subtle oak add structure, finishing long and elegant. Powerful yet polished, it’s a signature red from one of the best wine farms in Paarl.
The Broken Barrel Red T’nT 2024 celebrates the fearless spirit of Fairview wine farm, where creativity and tradition meet in the Cape vineyards. This limited-release blend combines Tempranillo (51%), Tannat (35%), and Durif (14%) from selected vineyards across the Coastal Region. The vines thrive in decomposed granite and koffieklip soils, enjoying warm days and cool nights that preserve natural acidity.
Each variety was fermented separately in open-top tanks, then basket-pressed and matured for 16 months in French and American oak. The result is a wine with Tempranillo’s dark fruit and spice, Tannat’s structure, and Durif’s rich depth.

Eager to explore a wider range of wines using grapes grown in optimal conditions, Charles Back abandoned the estate wine concept in the 1980s, choosing rather to “go where the terroir is”. Today, they are one of the few farms that proudly own all their own vineyards, with land in Paarl, Darling, Swartland and Stellenbosch.
