Description

Vibrant and approachable, the Dornier Cocoa Hill Ruby Red Blend 2022 from Wellington offers a generous nose of blackberries, red cherries, and a touch of peppery spice. The palate is juicy and well-balanced, with concentrated fruit, fresh acidity, and fine-grained tannins that lead into a smooth, lingering finish. This easy-drinking yet characterful red is perfect for weeknight dinners, casual gatherings, or anyone seeking a versatile South African blend with depth and charm.
Each vineyard block was fermented separately with frequent pump-overs to enhance color and tannin structure. The wine was then matured for 12 months in French oak, while a small portion remained unoaked to preserve freshness and vibrancy. This thoughtful approach brings balance, depth, and a lively character to the final blend.

The dry, alluvial soils (highly fertile clay, silt, and sand), combined with the region’s warm days and cool evening air, create a perfect daily temperature variation. This slow-ripening process allows grapes to develop concentrated flavors while retaining their acidity, resulting in vibrant and complex wines. Known for exceptional Pinotage and Chenin Blanc, Wellington has become a standout region for both red and white wines.
