Description

Blaauwklippen Brut MCC Zinfandel 2023 from the Coastal Region is a distinctive and characterful sparkling wine with depth, freshness, and refined complexity. The nose opens with plush sour cherry and vibrant cranberry, layered with notes of licorice, dark chocolate, cinnamon, and allspice, while delicate floral hints add elegance and lift. On the palate, this MCC is savory and textured, with chalky tannins and a mineral-driven mid-palate that give it structure and individuality.

The finish is fresh and focused, lingering with subtle hints of tobacco that add further intrigue. Bold yet poised, Blaauwklippen Brut MCC Zinfandel 2023 is a memorable South African sparkling wine for those who enjoy layered flavors and a more complex, food-friendly style.
The grapes were sourced from vineyards on our farm and from a Wellington site. The Stellenbosch blocks, planted in 1991 and 2001, are planted widely (2.5 m x 1.4 m) on medium-potential soils, namely Tukulu and Kroonstad, with a seven-wire vertical shoot positioning (VSP) trellis system using drip irrigation.

Both vineyards are around 90 m above sea level. The Wellington site is planted widely (2.7 m x 1.5 m) on Klapmuts soil and is around 180 m above sea level. Annual production varies between 6 and 8 tons per hectare.

Blaauwklippen, nestled on the slopes of Stellenbosch Mountain, is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, dating back to 1682, and is situated in the picturesque town of Stellenbosch. The name Blaauwklippen comes from the Dutch term meaning “blue rocks.”
