Description

The Beyerskloof Eerste Ry Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 represents the pinnacle of the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from its oldest vineyard blocks and crafted for depth, structure, and longevity. The 2023 vintage leans slightly more expressive in its youth, while retaining the power and aging potential that defines this flagship wine.

The nose is intense and focused, showing cassis, blackcurrant, and dark berry fruit, layered with notes of cedar, spice, and subtle dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with concentrated fruit supported by firm, finely grained tannins. There is a polished balance between fruit and oak, leading to a long, persistent finish that speaks to both precision and careful maturation.

A serious, cellar-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine pairs beautifully with braised beef, mature sirloin, roast duck, and rich, savory dishes.
The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness from the estate’s oldest vineyards and fermented in open fermenters, with skin contact for 5–8 days at controlled temperatures (±25–28°C). Regular punch-downs ensured effective extraction of color, flavor, and tannin while maintaining balance.

Following fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks before being matured for approximately 24 months in French oak barrels, predominantly new oak, to build structure and complexity. After bottling, the wine was further aged prior to release, allowing for integration and refinement.
