Description

Marianne Wine Estate Shiraz 2018 is a Simonsberg-Paarl red built in a full-bodied, dark-fruited style, with the kind of spice and richness that suit the variety well in this part of the Cape. It is a wine that leans confidently into ripe fruit and savory warmth, but still keeps enough shape to avoid feeling overdone. For drinkers who enjoy Shiraz with both generosity and a more polished, estate-driven character, this is a strong example.

The nose opens with succulent plum, spice, and a trace of clove, giving the wine an immediately expressive and inviting profile. On the palate, the fruit remains intense and layered, with a long aftertaste marked by lingering fruit and licorice spice. There is real body here, but also enough balance to keep the wine composed through the finish. It would pair especially well with ostrich, venison, or other rich, gamey dishes, where its dark fruit and spice can settle naturally into the depth of the food.

Now with some bottle age, the 2018 vintage should already be showing more integration and harmony, while still holding enough structure to continue drinking well over the near term.
The grapes were handpicked at phenolic ripeness and stored at 10°C to preserve freshness and flavor definition. After crushing, the must was held at 10°C with skins and juice left in contact for 10 days in French oak tanks, a method that helps build color stability and deepen flavor. Fermentation was followed by a 4-week development period to further extract flavor and structure before the wine was transferred to French oak barrels, 35% of them new, for 16 to 22 months of maturation.

This measured use of new oak supports a fuller mid-palate and aging potential while still allowing the fruit to remain clear and settled.
