Description

The L'Avenir Brut Pinotage Rosé 2023 is a distinctly South African take on traditional-method sparkling wine, made entirely from the country's signature red grape. Elegant and expressive, it combines Pinotage's natural fruit character with extended lees aging to create a Cap Classique with freshness, fine texture, and impressive complexity.

A vibrant sunset pink in the glass, the wine opens with fresh aromas of grapefruit, lemon, and bruised apple, layered with classic notes of brioche and pastry. The palate is medium-bodied and energetic, with lively acidity balanced by a fine, creamy mousse. Flavors of lemon, pomegranate, and subtle ginger biscuit emerge through the palate, leading to an elegant, refreshing finish.

This is a versatile sparkling rosé for both celebrations and the table. Serve well chilled as an aperitif or pair with oysters, smoked salmon, sushi, shellfish, charcuterie, soft cheeses, or lightly spiced dishes.
The base wine was fermented in stainless steel at approximately 14°C for up to 14 days, preserving Pinotage's fresh fruit and natural acidity. Following fermentation, the wine was lightly fined and spent three months sur lie, building additional texture before the secondary fermentation.

Secondary fermentation then took place in bottle according to the traditional Cap Classique method. No malolactic fermentation was allowed, helping preserve freshness and acidity. The wine subsequently matured on its lees in bottle for three years, developing its fine mousse along with the brioche and pastry complexity characteristic of extended lees-aged sparkling wine.

L'Avenir is a specialist Stellenbosch estate with a particular focus on two varieties central to South African wine: Pinotage and Chenin Blanc. Situated on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg, the estate has built a reputation for exploring Pinotage in several forms, from serious age-worthy reds to rosé and traditional-method sparkling wine.

The Brut Pinotage Rosé offers a particularly distinctive interpretation of the variety, combining an unmistakably South African grape with the patience and precision of traditional bottle fermentation.
