Description
Winemaker: Dawie Botha
It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility on the estate, and the beginnings of what was to become a sprawling enterprise with a focus on terroir specific wines.
Stretching beyond the Hottentots Holland Mountains toward South Africa’s southern coastline, the Overberg is a landscape of dramatic contrasts. High mountain vineyards, cool inland valleys and windswept maritime sites give winemakers access to an unusually varied collection of terroirs. In the cooler pockets, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir develop vivid fruit, natural acidity and fine aromatic detail. Warmer, drier sites can produce compelling Syrah and Mediterranean varieties with spice, structure and savory depth. This diversity makes Overberg wine difficult to reduce to a single style - and that is precisely its appeal. Explore wines from the Overberg to experience one of the Cape’s most adventurous regions, where small vineyards and distinctive sites are producing some of South Africa’s most individual wines.
